Destiny of the great artist is not always fortunate: lack of money, unappreciated genius and only overwhelming love for the work. Sometimes the masters had to spend their last money not on food but on paints and canvases. Now the collectors expend millions on their works.

French post-impressionist painter, Paul Gauguin, spend his most creative period on Tahiti island. In spite of his illness and poverty he created there his best art works. Unfortunately the painter rose into distinction only after death. However Gauguin’s masterpiece “Nafea faa ipoipo” was realized at $300mln.

Paul Cezanne, son of Provence, was inspired by French countrymen. The artist painted five pictures that portray men playing cards. One of them was sold out at a dear price, $250mln.

“Les Femmes d’Alger” is a set of fifteen pictures and paintings executed by Pablo Picasso. These works are defined by Latin letters. Version “O” is considered the most significant one. This painting came under the hammer at the price of $179,365mln.

Amedeo Modigliani celebrated the glory of naked women body. His works are realistic in the context of emotions. Nude figures presented in his oeuvre are real portraits. In 2015 “Nu couché” was put up at $170.4mln.

Picasso’s “Le Rêve” represents the great erotic art. The painting is dedicated to one the artist’s mistresses who was more than 30 years younger than the painter. The price for this object of art amounted to $155mln.

On the triptych “Three Studies of Lucian Freud” the artist Francis Bacon pictured his friend Lucian Freud. All parts of this artistic work have the same size and portray a man sitting on the chair. The painting was realized at a record price, $142,4mln.

Drip Painting created by Jackson Pollock involves painting by means of paint splashing. “No.5” was executed in this manner. It is believed that all fuss over this work was made artificially. It was kept in the dark until all pictures of the artist had been sold. “No.5” cost $140mln.

Example of Expressionism, “The Scream” is still one of the most mysterious masterpieces. Some critics believe that it is the phantom of sick imagination of Edvard Munch. Others see foreboding of natural disaster. However, everybody finds emotions and atmosphere of the painting incredible. It was realized at $119,992mln.
